The toothy smile, along with the way Luther had looked after Klaus all but kicked him out of the infirmary, makes a sort of smirk cross his lips. He hadn’t heard the argument itself, but there’s a glint of pride that is visible in his features. Oh to have been a fly on that wall.

“Alright, don’t sleep then. See if I care.” He does care. Obviously. He wouldn’t be here if he didn’t. “At least go wash up, though. Don’t scare her back to sleep once she finally wakes up.”

The tease doesn’t have the usual bite, especially as his gaze ventures back to their sister. For a moment he stays silent, and if Klaus says something he doesn’t quite hear it. It makes Diego uncomfortable how close Allison came to dying. How close they came to losing Klaus. How close they are to losing Vanya. There’s so much shit between all of them, but the idea of losing another member of their family feels suffocating.

Hadn’t Ben been enough? Hadn’t they paid whatever cosmic imbalance their birth had caused with their brother’s death? With their upbringing? It makes Diego feel powerless, to be in this precipice, without knowing how the hell to get his family out of it.

He refuses to stumble down, though. To let anyone else get hurt.

“We’re going to look for them. Vanya and Harold,” he adds as he turns back to Klaus, a dangerous look in his eyes. All the anger, all his rage simmering beneath his skin, ready to make someone pay for all this.

Ready to set this right, considering his hand in this mess.

“I’m sorry. I should have been with her.”
